I LIKE HERNING.

Herning has a permanent “just above average” quality to it, and I mean that with real affection. It is not trying to impress you. People are friendly without making a performance of it, a bit blunt without being hostile, and the places I end up liking most are usually the ones nobody thinks twice about.

So I go out with an A4 board, pick something ordinary — a park, a road, McDonald’s, whatever catches me — and paint it for a few hours. When the time is up, it is done. I do not take it home and polish it into something else. The point is to look properly, make decisions, and accept the result.

Every study is acrylic on A4 hardboard — basically the same stuff you find on the back of IKEA furniture, which feels weirdly fitting. I will keep adding to the series whenever I can get outside.
